SHIZUOKA – A 33-year-old man was arrested Thursday on suspicion of killing a male acquaintance whose dismembered body was found in July in Lake Hamanako in Shizuoka Prefecture, police said.
Tatsuya Kawasaki, unemployed, was also arrested for allegedly abandoning the body of the victim, Yuto Demachi, 32, from Hokkaido’s Bibai city.
The police also suspect Kawasaki may know about the death of Atsushi Sudo, 63, whose bones were found on the shore of the lake in late August, as he has already been indicted on a charge of illegally transferring money using Sudo’s cash card.
The police believe that Kawasaki stabbed Demachi in the stomach with a knife at an apartment in Iwata city around July 5 and then abandoned his dismembered body around the lake around July 8.
Demachi’s body, which was cut into four parts, was found on July 8 in a cove on the northern part of the lake. The body parts were confirmed to be Demachi’s through DNA and teeth analysis.
